Tom Hall from the Press Room Trad Sessions

Traditional music sessions, or "trad sessions" are informal gatherings of traditional and folk music enthusiasts who get together to sing and play folks songs that have been handed down from member to member. One such group gathers at the Press Room in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Groups like this keep maritime music alive. One of its founding members, the late Tom Hall led the weekly music session for over 30 years. He and his wife Linn Schulz also founded a monthly shanty, forebitter, and foc's'l ballad session. Not long before Hall lost his voice to vocal cord cancer, fellow musician Joe Stead recorded him singing Bound Away for Australia (see above). We're grateful to have the chance to hear him sing.
