First Seamless Photomosaic of a Shipwreck

Over 1993-1994, Bateaux Below members photographed and produced the first seamless photomosaic of a shipwreck (1758 Land Tortoise) using pioneering software called Photoshop. Underwater photographer Bob Benway used a custom built photoframe and Nikonos camera to take 400 overlapping color photographs; some duplicate images. From those photographs, 200 photographs were selected and then computer technician Kendrick McMahan assembled this unique photomosaic image of the radeau in plan view. The green and black colors were added. Over 1000 "man hours" were put into creating this seamless photomosaic.
