Many ahimas are double ended, meaning that both ends come to a point. Although not a part of the ahima on exhibit, the ends on larger ahimas are raised in height with the addition of pieces which helps the boat cut through rough water. Additionally the ends are shaped to aid with tieing off ropes. Outboard motors and masts are sometimes added as well.
