Bringing an ahima to the public.

Public Outreach

During the fall 2019 semester at Georgia Southern University, graduate students in Dr. Knoerl’s Maritime Public Outreach course studied numerous ways of sharing maritime history with the general public. Topics covered in class included documenting small craft, interviewing boat builders, maritime history and a host of others. The students read numerous articles and books on how best to reach a wide audience. They received hands-on experience by building a physical exhibit on the ahima on display at the University in the IAB building on the Statesboro, GA campus during the spring 2020 semester. Their work was also digitized for an online audience. This became the website you are currently viewing. We’ve included the public outreach portion so that visitors could see some of the training these graduates received. If you have questions or are interested in studying public and or maritime history at Georgia Southern University please come for a visit or contact the History Department at: history@georgiasouthern.edu
