This 1960-raised, 1758 bateau was exhibited for years at the Adirondack Museum before it was taken off exhibit back several years ago (Photograph courtesy of Dr. Russ Bellico / Bateaux Below, Inc.).

1960 - Raising Three British Bateaux

Following the 1960 finds, the Adirondack Museum (Blue Mountain Lake, New York), secured a state permit to recover several sunken bateaux from Lake George. It is believed that up to three bateaux were raised "after divers rigged slings and air-filled inner tubes" to recover the historic boats (Albany Times Union, September 24, 1960). The recovered bateaux were transported to the Adirondack Museum for polyethylene glycol (PEG) treatment. Following conservation, one bateau was exhibited at that museum.
