"Operation Bateaux 1963-1964"

Over the summers of 1963 and 1964, Mohawk Valley archaeological diver Terry Crandall was hired by the Andirondack Museum to conduct SCUBA fieldwork to locate, photograph, map, and excavate bateau-class wrecks of "The Sunken Fleet of 1758." Crandall's pioneering underwater archaeological fieldwork, undertaken under permit from the State Education Department, set a baseline for future underwater archaeological studies at Lake George.
